I know many have been asking how Mom's doing, now that one round of chemo is under her belt, so on this off week (though she does meet with her oncologist today), I'll give you a brief update.
The chemo itself went well. They only started her at a 50% level, and then will start to increase it more as the weeks progress. She went in, and about 5-6 hours laters, she and Dad left the hospital, with Mom still connected to her chemo (she can carry it on her hip or in an awesome and stylish fanny pack!). The next day, she hung around the house while the chemo did its thing. The third day brought a quick five minute trip to the hospital where they unplugged her, and now she's off until next week! Thursday, Mom felt very tired, but believe it or not, still went to the library with me for story time! I took the boys and Mom back home, and put them all down for naps that afternoon ;)
Mom can't lift much, and feels very weak at times. The nausea wasn't too bad, but we don't know if it's because chemo was only at a 50% level. She is learning to balance social time with good naps at home, and is determined not to become a home body! Mom continues to amaze me with her ability to continue to be involved with life, especially her grandsons...she'll even change a diaper (as long as I lift the boys up on the changing table for her!)
We're gearing up for the new school year, and aren't quite sure what God's plans are...We are asking for prayers as Mom meets with her principal and fellow kindergarten teacher this week to discuss plans for the year. Mom really wants to go back to work, and we're praying that God will give her that gift..We're not entirely sure how it's all going to go-Mom working, Dad working and watching the boys, me working...but we're convinced that God has this all under control, and knows our needs and desires. I would like to honor my commitment to my director, as I promised her one more year (her own daughter is going to be a kindergartner, and I would like to help make that transition easier since I'll be her after school teacher) and I'm hoping that this will all come together....
If we've learned anything up to now, it's that God is continuously a good God-He is faithful to His promises and up to now, we've seen everything work out...so I know things will continue to do so...I will admit to times of panic and uncertainty, I wouldn't be human if I didn't have them! I know God is bigger though...I also know we have an amazing support system constantly praying for us, over us, standing by us...Your cards, comments, emails-make Mom's day. We love you all...
Way to go, Ginny. Keep on keeping on, but remember that naps are your friend.
